WHAT ARE SUPER FOODS? DO THEY WEAR A CAPE OR SOMETHING????

What is a SUPER FOOD?  Does it wear a cape? Well, a super food is a food item or ingredient that has high concentrations of healthful properties, that are nutrient dense and vitamin rich.

So what are some of these superfoods that we could add to our diet?
Some are foods that we can have readily available that are exactly that, nutrient dense and vitamin rich.  For example:  berries, nuts, seeds, dark leafy green vegetables (chard, kale, chollard greens, spinach), vegetables that are dark or have intense colors (beets, sweet potatoes, brocolli), apples, citrus, fatty cold water fish, yogurt, kefir and I am going to include DARK chocolate!!

But there are some new kids on the block that seem to be offering higher concentrations of healthful properties!

  1. Acai:  small, round, dark colored berries from the Acai palm. It's a low sugar, protien filled, polyphenol / antioxidant rich food.  There have been studies performed on this fruit indicating that it could help kill of potentially cancerous cells.  CLICK HERE FOR SOME INFO ON ACAI!!
  2. Lingonberry This is Dr. Oz's new fave superfood available to us.  The lingonberry, studies are showing, is chock full of antioxidant power.  I have heard of it before, only as a topping for Swedish pancakes (we had a Swedish housekeeper when I was a little girl who made us this treat once in a while... YUM).  CLICK HERE TO SEE WHY DR. OZ LOVES THIS BERRY!!!!
  3. Cupuacu:  Pronounced " koo-poo-ah-soo" and is also spelled CupuassuCupuazĂș, and Copoasu.  Once again, this food is rich in antioxidants.  It is also high in phyto-tannins.  It is said to give you energy without caffeine because it has high amounts of  theograndins and flavanoids.  Also, if used topically, it is very hydrating to the skin.  CLICK HERE FOR SOME MORE INFO ON CUPUACU !
  4. Freekah:  A grain that is harvested when it is young and at it nutrient densest time.  It has 4x the fiber of brown rice and acts as a prebiotic in the stomach!! CLICK ON THIS TO GET YOUR "FREEKLEH" ON!! (MORE INFO ON FREELEH)
  5. Wakame (Brown Seaweed):  Usually found in Asian markets, but now found in your regular health food market as well, wakame is very often found in miso soup or as a side to sushi.  Why is this such a great food?  Studies in mice have shown that it can fight cancerous cells, which is always good to hear.  There have also been studies shown to help with high cholesterol and with cardiovascular diseases.  It also contains a chemical known as "fucoxanthin" which has been shown to improve mental alertness, boost cellular metabolism, regulate insulin and can possible target a protein that can increase fat burning! CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ABOUT WAKAME!!
Where can you find these foods?  Check each link for more info.  There are supplements out there that can give you these foods in a capsule or drink.  I have been loving Revv Energy drink for when I am working out.  Revv contains some of the above listed superfoods plus other ingredients that have healthful properties.  I teach 18 classes or more a week and when I drink my Revv, I feel refreshed and ready to give my classes my 100%.  Now whether it is a psychological or a physiological effect, I cannot say, but I LOVE MY REVV!!  CLICK HERE FOR INFO ON MY FAVE DRINK!!!  I do not endorse anything that I do not believe in and use.  I do not get a kickback or anything for suggesting this product to you.  I just really like it!  AND... it has grown on me since I've been using it!
