LOOKING FOR A BALANCED, STRONG CENTER / CORE? TRY THESE PILATES EXERCISES!!

Do you desire CORE STRENGTH????
(What exactly is CORE STRENGTH anyway?)
  • "Core strength" refers to the balanced development of the muscles we use to stabilize, align, and move the trunk of the body, especially the abdominal muscles and muscles of the back.
  • Core strength goes beyond the surface muscles and utilizes deep internal muscles to maintain stability in motion.
  • As we age, core strength becomes even more important as it helps in stability, postural stance and strength.
So what is a good way to reach this goal of "CORE STRENGTH"?
  • An incredible effect way is through the Pilates method, which was created by Joseph Pilates. It places an emphasis on the total balance of the development of the body through core strength, flexibility and power from your center.
  • The foundation of a Pilates based work out IS creating core strength.  The core muscles are made up of the deep, internal muscles of both the abdomen and the back.
  • When these core muscles are strong and are doing their job properly, they work together with the superficial muscles of your trunk in order to support you spine and movement. This is why it is so important to do the Pilates move in a precise fashion in order for you to gain the maximum benefit.
I am posting 4 videos of some movements from the Pilates method that will help you achieve the goal of a strong and stable core!
Try each video separately or use them as a complete core workout!

1.  Start with this great Pilates Core Circuit to get the core warmed up and engaged:

2. Then let's move onto the PILATES 100:

3.   Deep Core Engagement Through a Deep Rollup with  Leg Extension:

4.  Now, to work the entire core, we must engage the back as well, in more focused manner.  This is a great video demonstrating different progressions of Pilates back exercises:

My next post will be on creating nice, strong TRICEP muscles!!!!
