Just a quick note about green tea...
American Fitness Magazine just posted this little article about whether or not green tea drinkers get a boost in their metabolism:
Does green tea boost metabolism?
Much ado has been made about green tea. It’s thought that green tea provides numerous health benefits. Is there any scientific evidence that it produces an increase in metabolism?
Researchers conducted a review and meta-analysis that examined the effects of green tea with or without caffeine. (Caffeine is found naturally in green tea.) The meta-analysis included 15 studies that involved a total of 1,243 subjects.
The researchers found that green tea with caffeine caused statistically significant decreases in body mass index, body weight and waist circumference. However, they concluded that the effect over an average of 12 weeks is small and “not likely clinically relevant.” Green tea alone—without caffeine—did not bring about any statistically significant decreases in body mass index, body weight, waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio.
Here is another article you might want to read with regards to the health benefits of green teas, stating some FABULOUS benefits of this drink BESIDES boosting the metabolism! :
With that said, I do suggest that you only drink either "wild" green tea or organic green tea. This is because this particular type of tea is in such high demand, that high amounts of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides are needed to grow them cost effectively and quickly... The benefits are outweighed by the chemicals, so I do suggest ONLY "wild" or organic when buying green tea!! You can find these products at health food stores and most grocery retailers as well!
