First the Android apps:
- FREE: Now, because fitness starts with your diet, I recommend the Calorie Counter - MyFitnessPal This is the fastest and easiest app for calorie counting! It has the largest food dababase of anthing on the Android market with over 750,000 foods... Complete with barcode scanner.
- FREE: Cardio Trainer... This is an app that allows you to track your activities. It tracks indoor as well as outdoor activities, calories, GPS and pedometer.
- There is a PREMIUM ADD ON for the Cardio Trainer. This costs $2.99 and is Racing for Cardio Trainer . You must first have the free Cardio Trainer and then you can search for this one. You race against your own workouts... there is a voice telling you exactly how far ahead or behind you are from a previous work out!! Talk about motivation!!! I have read about another additional app that you can add and it is a weight loss module that costs another $2.99.
- FREE: Run Keeper This app tracks your fitness activities. It also uses GPS to track your routes, distance, pace and it can also track heart rate, though I think you may need a heart rate monitor for this feature. This app also uses audio cues during your workout and many other features as well. VERY COOL!
- JEFIT and JEFIT PRO. Start with the free JEFIT and if you are interested, upgrade to the JEFIT PRO. Create your own profile, track your workouts, choose for SO MANY different exercises to do, take pictures and use them to track how you are looking! SO FUN!!
- Lastly, there is the INSTANT HEART RATE app that you can, relatively accurately, test your heart rate.
IPHONE:
- FREE: M-Train This has some interesting workouts on it: focusing on power, agility, strength and endurance. The workouts are fun and different, the moves are tough and motivating at the same time! You can even create your own playlist to fit your workout!! THUMBS UP for this app!!!
- $3.99 : Beatburn Treadmill/Outdoor Trainer This one includes music for your running pace and it creates your own interval program. You can customize your music to your workout and customize the workout as well. This is a really fun and creative app. There is also voice motivational cues
- RunKeeper (See Android description)
- $3.99: Tap & Track Calorie, Weight and Exercise Tracker Tap & Track offers tons of features for people who want to track everything from food calories to exercise. They offer an extensive food database with 300,000 food items and 700 restaurants, while the workout database has over 180 exercises. This tracks calories eaten, calories burned, carbs, protein, fat fiber, sodium, too! It sets a diet plan for you with weight loss goals. This is a complete and awesome app!
There are many, many others out there, these are just the ones that I reviewed and looked over that seem easy to use and functional at the same time. The ones that cost money are all a one time price... not very steep and yet they are kind of like having a coach/instructor with you all the time!! Have fun!
